What makes Huis Billiet so special
Huis Billiet has been since 1995 a protected monument.
Huib Hoste built this house with diamond cutting factory in the 1920s. This renowned Bruges architect applied De Stijl principles for his design. Huis Billiet is one of the first houses where Hoste plays with volumes and the colours yellow, red and black. This gives the house a cubist character. The architect uses concrete, a new material for the time. Moreover, he creates an overall concept. This gives the interior a bold play of colours.
According to tradition, we name a protected monument after its first builder. Jules Billiet commissioned the construction of this house in the 1920s. This is how it was named Huis Billiet.
